In 1579 a warrior of African descent arrived in Japan. He went on to be known as the legendary "Black Samurai".
OVERVIEW:
"Yasuke", as he was named by the great feudal Lord Nobunaga, under which he served. He was 6'2" tall and legend has it he had the "strength of 10 men". Yasuke faithfully served Lord Nobunaga until his lord was betrayed by a general and committed seppuku, ritual suicide so he could have an honorable death. It is said Yasuke escaped capture with his Lord's head to deny their enemy. Little is known of Yasuke's fate after, except for that he did not die at the hands of his enemy.
